The Piano Program

We welcome all Capital Region students to join us for our Summer camps.  Please call today for an application!

PIANO CAMP - Designed for piano students entering grades 4 - 9 who have studied piano for at least 2 years.  It is a motivating and energizing musical experience for young pianists - Piano Camp is jampacked full of serious fun!  The tuition fee covers all instruction and activities, including at least 2 private lessons during each week of the camp.  As repertoire and activities change weekly, students are welcome to enroll for more than one session.  Join us for an inspiring week of making music together!

Our program partners the study of repertoire, technique, theory, and tone with opportunities to learn and perform with other students and professional musicians in a variety of musical styles and genres.

We augment weekly private piano lessons with group theory and repertoire classes (Piano Classes), in which students meet with their peers and, on occasion, professional musicians. Additionally, we take students to concerts and recitals to hear professional musicians perform and, because we've seen that students who work toward goals usually stay with music, we require our students to take part in at least two of the many recitals we hold each year.  Students also participate in evaluations, which take place at The Music Studio and through the New York State Music Teachers Association.  Many of our students also choose to take part in Piano Competitions.

We offer many additional opportunities to our students. Almost all have met and worked with working composers. Many have performed with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, multiple times, and many have performed with jazz and swing musicians. A sizeable number have performed with The Music Studio Kids, a traveling group of musicians who perform across the Capital Region, in addition to their piano study.  A large number of students help younger students as well.

Regretfully, we can only accept students into The Piano Program who have completed Music Fundamentals and Creative Keyboard.  If we did not limit ourselves in this way, the quality of our instruction would suffer. However, we gladly share the names of area Piano Teachers who are members of the Music Teachers National Association with those who are interested.

Proper finger position matters!
